Eddy Current Testing of Welded Joints Obtained by Friction-Stir Welding

This article presents the technology of eddy current testing of welds obtained by friction stir welding (FSW). This technology is adapted to inspection of circumferential welds in liners made of aluminum alloys and allows identifying a C-shaped defect – a lack of penetration at the weld root. This defect is characterized by small opening of 2 – 5 μm and small depth of about 100 – 200 μm.
