Detecting Grinding Damage in Gears with the Barkhausen Noise

L. Suominen

This article reviews the main benefits of a complex surface quality testing through analysis of Barkhausen noise, and the application of this method for testing of various parts. The article compares and shows that in comparison to other methods and technologies, the testing method using analysis of Barkhausen noise provides the most effective tracking of defects caused by grinding, it is simple and can easily be automated.
