Residual Stresses Estimation of All-Rolled and Banned Wheels Using Acoustoelasticity Effect
Testing procedure for residual stress in all-rolled car wheel rims using the acoustoelasticity effect displayed under electromagnetic excitation-reception of signals is described. The device brief specifications are provided. A method to determine the acoustoelasticity coefficient of the steel under test is described. The results of determining residual stress in the new and used car wheels are provided. A procedure to control locomotive tires stretch with reference to the measured residual stress values using the acoustoelasticity method and electromagnetic-acoustic conversion is described. The results of determining residual stress in the rims before and after they are placed on to the wheel bosses and the results of testing rim stretch are provided.
