Radiographic Image Quality Parameters for Welded Joints According to New Standards GOST ISO 17636-1,2-2017
The main radiographic image quality parameters (optical density, geometric unsharpness, contrast sensitivity and change of penetrated thickness within an image) according to the coming into effect GOST ISO 17636-1-2017 and the existing GOST 7512-82 film radiography standards for welded joints are compared. The outdated, missing and overcomplicated requirements and regulations of the latter are revealed and discussed. Its total revision or withdrawal is proposed. The essential differences of digital image quality parameters according to the coming into effect GOST ISO 17636-2-2017 standard and the relevant parameters in film radiography are described and analyzed.
Keywords: film radiography, digital radiography, computed radiography, welded joints, optical density, geometric unsharpness, contrast sensitivity, normalized SNR, total unsharpness, penetrated thickness.
